Due Diligence

9-Jan-2018
Fort Hancock Texas

Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
And spills the upper boulders in the sun;
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.

The Mending Wall.  Robert Frost

Paralleling Interstate 10 in west Texas is a state road 20 which follows down near the Rio Grande.
We left 10 to follow it for a few miles.
Lots of irrigated pecan trees, some cotton and plenty of raptors flying around looking for dinner.
We decided to head down to the river and check out the birds as the day was beginning to fade.

As we approached the river...
Denied!Steel Slats, Chain Link, Concertina.

Hubbin’ It

9-Jan-2019
El Paso Tx

How’s the world a treating you?
Made your fortune yet?
The world ain’t been treating me.
I paid for what I get

Keep Hubbin it, Hubbin it
It’s your wagon load
Keep right on a hubbin it
Down that mountain road.

Bob Wills

The gunships been hubbin all the way from avon to the west Texas town of El Pas (Marty Robbins).
Good traveling and sleeping weather with stops west of Atlanta the first night and Fort Worth.
Pretty good Indian food at a truck stop somewhere out there. Who’d a thunk it.
Miles and miles of Texas (Ernest Tubbs) from Forth Worth to El Paso.
Got another look at the oil industry of the Permian Basin. Something to behold

Not much to report at this time. A few photos from the drive
We’ll start turning over a few rocks real soon now.

Ramping Up

Avon NC
5-Jan-2019

Time again for another foray into the hinterland... mostly the desert.
We plan 3-4 weeks in Tucson then up to Phoenix before turning hard east.

Hope the partial government shutdown does not get in the way.

The gunship is, quite literally, primed. Newly primed in fact. Recent overheating issues while travelling through the Lehigh Valley of Pa necessitate the on the spot purchase (with no haggling) of a compatible water pump and the necessary expertise to effect repairs.

We felt a bit cheated that all our holiday dough was spent in the purchase of a  water pump and a night at the MicroTel.  But life is wierd. I had been hoping  brand new swivel captains chairs for both the Captain and Miss Sciency- with heaters and optional massage capabilities.

But gunship mobility is always the highest priority, except when sleeping. Hence a water pump.

Aside- Just thinking... With the advent of GoFundMe,IndieGoGo,Patreon, etc on the web perhaps some caring blog reader will initiate such an activity to finance the purchase of above mentioned seats.
Should this activity be really successful such seats could be installed  on a 60' Paul Mann Carolina Sportfisherman as per below.  Please include complete fuel and dockage budget in funding.

Time to get down the road!
